Breaking and a Sore Wrist

It's been a hot minute since I have posted my last blog post. If you know me well, you know that I LOVE the Olympics. I am more partial to the Winter Olympics, especially since I live in the Salt Lake Valley and love snowboarding, However, I was extremely surprised when I found out that new to this Olympic Games was Breaking, or 'Break Dancing".  In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the Olympics actually had events that were artistic based and not athletic.

With Breaking being new, I was super curious to how it would work. Sometimes when I watch Half-Pipe Snowboarding or Skateboarding in the Olympics, I personally don't know the names of the tricks, but the commentators do. I looked up the Breaking Olympic Trials just to see how it works, as well as Peacock has all of the events and all of the footage. Usually on TV, we just see a few medal rounds for the Americans or some other countries winning the gold medals. Peacock has everything, including a four minute video on how Breaking is scored, and what the names of the major moves so you can understand everything.

I haven't seen the Men's Breaking event yet, but I have watched the women, and it's a lot of fun to watch, and some of the moves look like the dancers could be great at gymnastics, especially the Floor Event. The dancing might be more on the artistic side of the Olympic Games, but it's definitely very athletic with what the dancers can do. If you have Peacock, or even just use YouTube, I'm sure there is plenty.

Now, my blog post is half way through. I talked about Breaking, but not my sore wrists. Back in 2017 when I first got my Nintendo Switch, I bought a fun little rhythm game called "Floor Kids". It is a breakdancing video game where you need to press the buttons and spin the joysticks on the controller to the beat of the music. It has six different dancers you can choose, and each one has their own special moves.

It's kind of a short game, but there are a ton of ways to play it. In fact, to get to the last venue to perform at, you have to unlock all of the dancers and earn crowns, which they use to rate your performance. Each venue gets tougher and tougher to get good scores, so it takes a lot of playing for each song to know how the chorus rhythm is performed, and I'll tell you what, I didn't play much of the game when I first bought it, but after watching Breaking in the Olympics, I started over with it, and I have been having a blast, but since some of the rhythms are really fast, it gives your fingers, hands and wrists a good workout.

Here is a trailer for the game, and I wholeheartedly recommend the game if you like rhythm games or break dancing, or you are looking for something different to play on your Switch, this is a great one.

Like I said, it's really fun and I recommend it. It's a lot of fun. I also think watching a little bit of the Olympic Breaking events is neat and fun to watch, at least for a couple of battles.

Well, I am done with this one. I hope you are all out there with good health and happy hearts. I can't promise to release another blog soon, but I hope it will be. Take care, and have a good....whatever time of day it is when you read this!
