Quarantine Over....

I am happy to say that my time being quarantined is over. I am no longer sick with the Covid-19 virus, and although I still need to wear a mask around for a few more days, the long days shut up in my bedroom in the basement have come to an end. However, my experience should be a lesson that even though we have two shots of the vaccine and boosters, it is still possible to catch, and so you must stay safe and be careful. We aren't completely out of the woods yet.

So, I have been wanting to say something on this blog for a while. Sometimes, I think my film/media critic mind forgets to remember from time to time, that my opinions and suggestions aren't solid facts. I simply share my opinions with whatever I might be writing about, good or bad, but sometimes, I forget that I have interests that are different from everyone else on the planet. I try my very best to be well-rounded. My dad's whole side of the family are into sports, like big time. My mom's side of the family is into the fine and performing arts, and there are things that I love that don't belong to both of those sides, at least a little bit.

For example, I am in the Curling League at the Utah Olympic Oval. I love Curling, and I love watching other countries, especially Canada, on YouTube. The Canadians have a few really big tournaments throughout the year, and every single match is on YouTube. Keep in mind that there are over a hundred matches for each tournament, and so there are hundreds and hundreds of Curling matches on YouTube.

I got into Curling from going to a learn to curl night at the Oval. When I was still married to Angie, her brother was playing in a hockey league at the Oval, and I saw a little flier on the wall, and I thought to myself, "Hmm, that's that weird Olympic sport with the rocks and brooms. I wonder how it is played."
I signed up and went to the learn to curl night. They have them every single Friday evening for the most part. I went, and fell in love with the sport. I am going to put a little video from YouTube explaining the rules for you all right here...

The reason I share this is because I love it, and it's a ton of fun to play and watch when you know what's going on. It's known as Chess on ice because, believe it or not, it is very strategic and it's a lot harder to do than people think. Because it isn't too well known in the United States, and most people think it looks goofy, people don't think to try it. It's very popular everywhere else, I mean, it's an Olympic sport. However, my dad thinks it's weird and thinks I'm weird for getting into it.

The reason I brought my dad up, is because, I know he loves me unconditionally, but at the same time, I know that he thinks I am into weird stuff, but weird according to him. When the film Encanto was released back in December, which I loved, and is now streaming on Disney+, I wanted to watch it with my mom, and told my dad that he should watch it with us. My dad thinks anything animated is for little kids, which is not true, but I was thinking about it. Some of my all-time favorite movies or TV shows are animated. I love The Simpsons and Futurama. I love Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Dragon Prince. I love Pixar films, and Dreamworks movies, for the most part. Some of my all-time favorite movies are animated, so and so my dad thinks I like little kid stuff. Some of the shows I like might be considered a family show, or shows kids can watch as well as adults, but it doesn't really make my dad think otherwise.

To be fair, I love sports movies, that he also loves. My dad doesn't really get excited about things as much as other people do, except while watching sports. He's one of those "I'm super frustrated because my team did stupid stuff.", type people, lol. Don't get me wrong. We love doing things together often. I love sports and enjoy watching them with my dad.

I guess what I am trying to say is that I am just like everyone else. I have opinions, that I am lucky enough to be a working critic and writer, but I also need to remember that not everyone has the exact same tastes in entertainment as I do. I'm including board games in to this as well. I don't do it too often, but sometimes I try to talk my dad into playing a board or card game with me. He's not really into it, but he does it anyway from time to time. I try not to make him suffer, and I always try to play games with interests he has. For example, he loves to play Golf, and I have a few card and board games about Golf, so that usually helps him decide to play with me from time to time. Baseball board and card games are another one he is willing to sit down and play for a little big.

Anyway, I just wanted everyone to know that I am feeling better. I never feel like my opinion is fact, (I know people like that, and they frustrate me, lol.), I love spending time with my family and friends, and there are certain groups I can play certain games with.

Well, that's it for this one. I really hope you watch the curling video I linked to this post. It literally is only two minutes long, and it is fast and interesting at the same time. There is more to the sport, but I think if you take the time to watch the video, and with the Winter Olympics starting this week, you can watch a curling match or two and know how it is played, and maybe even understand what and why the teams do what they do. I love the Winter Olympics, and am so excited for them to start.

Well, take care and stay safe. Remember, just because you have had the vaccine and the booster shots, don't think you are immune, because you aren't, just like me. I thought I wouldn't get it, especially after my booster, and yet, I did. I hope to have you visit, or maybe even share my blog with someone again very soon.

Uncky Nate!
