I Have Covid :( , And my New Year's Resolution!

After a year and a half of telling everyone to be careful, and after my two shots and booster, I somehow caught the Covid-19 virus. I started feeling the effects last week while I was on a great vacation with my son, Elliot at Disneyland. I just thought we weren't getting enough rest between the days of being on the go, non-stop in the two parks. The trip was still great, but yeah, I figured when I got home that I should go get tested, just to be sure. I just thought it was an annoying head cold, and not Covid.

I have been quarantined in my basement for a few days now, and decided that I needed to post a blog about it. I am living proof that we still need to be careful, and be cautious, even with your vaccines and boosters. Being quarantined sucks, but I actually had an interesting idea.

You all know that I am a film critic, and have my podcast, The Freaking Film Fanatic, and I have been trying to think of content, other than just doing film reviews, or at least new film reviews when they are released. There is an old website with random things on it. It totally looks like it was made in the year 2000, and hasn't been brought up to look like a nice, professional look of websites nowadays. It's called www.rinkworks.com

There are a ton of little things on there, and the guy who runs it keeps it updated. On the site, they have what they call "The Film Lover's Checklist". On it, there are a bunch of different lists of films, like every Oscar Best Picture winners, the two different American Film Institutions Top 100 of All-Time Films, which has an older one, and an updated one. There are also lists like, Best Director film list, top ten genre films, like the top ten comedies, or action films.

You can even set up a free account and click on some links that will give you a list of movies, and you check if you have seen the film, or need to see it again because it has been a while, and if you don't mark anything, it counts as a not seen film. Then you can look at the lists, and it will show you what you have and haven't seen, or need to see again. It's really fun, and if you have friends, and you want to view their list, just ask them what their user name is, mine is unck42, and you can see what I have and haven't seen.

While I have been quarantined, I thought I should tackle some of the film lists that I am far behind on, and then report back. I might just start with the top ten lists, but at the same time, the films can overlap onto different lists, so like, if I watch a movie, and mark that I have seen it on the list, then it will update every list on the site that I have seen the film. I'm surprised at how many films I have seen, but surprised at all of the films that I haven't, and I feel like a slacker when it comes to being a film critic. There are some films that I should have already seen by this point in my life, or at least need to watch again.

The original thought was maybe going through all of my film collection, my DVDs, Blu-Rays and screeners that I have acquired over the years of being a working film critic, but I didn't know if I wanted to review them and say why they are in my collection. Some were from films I hadn't seen, and Blockbuster Video was selling three DVDs for five bucks or other old video stores that sold their used DVDs, although, most are probably on discs I have burned from screeners I receive from the film studios to review DVD and Blu-Ray releases, but I like the idea of watching movies I have never seen a little bit more.

So, that's going to be my New Year's resolution, even though I am making it on the 27th of the month. I think if I focus on small things, like top ten list, it will be a little easier to tackle, over the lists with 100 titles, and then have some of those films overlap into other lists, which will make those shorter for me to tackle. I am also going to give myself a realistic target. If I can't find the film streaming online somewhere, or I can't get it from the library, seriously, the library has a lot of great older films, even some that aren't in print right now. If I can't find them legally, then I will skip them, but I will note what I couldn't find. Sometimes it's hard to find films from 75 to 100 years old, which is sad, because I think if the films were awarded with....awards, lol, then they should be easy to find, but sometimes, they really aren't. It's sad that studios will skip certain titles, just because they are old, and they aren't as in demand as other films. Seriously, it's easy to find really sucky movies from the past 20 years, but can't find incredible films from 75 years ago.

Anyway, I hope you are all still staying safe. Please get the vaccines and boosters. I know I did, and I still got it, but at least it only felt like an annoying head cold over being on death's doorstep. Wear masks in public, even if you are vaccinated and boostered. The worst part of my Covid infection is just being in quarantine in my basement. I might have my movies, computers, video games, books, comics, and I am still feeling bored and stuck. I will let you know when I start feeling better.

Thanks for reading, and I hope that you will check back later as I start to do the movie list stuff. I love you all, and hope you are happy. Now, please pray for Mojo, I mean, Uncky Nate!
