I have found my way back to Wichita, Kansas, not that I want to be here, but I flew Elliot home. He came to stay with us for nine days, and we had a lot of fun, but it was also hard in a way. I hate that I don't have Elliot more than what I do, but I think there are ways to make it so I do see him more, but I just haven't figured it out quite yet.
A lot happened while he was visiting though, and I wanted to post a blog about everything we did so that I can recommend things we did that we really enjoyed, plus a couple of things with me that I am excited about.
Elliot and I started off by taking him to see Ant-Man 3, which I didn't care for too much. It's okay, but it was worth taking Elliot to because he enjoyed it. I also took Elliot to my critic screening for Shazam!: Fury of the Gods, which was fun. They gave us tons of swag including: A nice water bottle, a metal lunch box, a t-shirt, a poster, a knit hat and a pretty thick Shazam! comic book.
We went to the Nerd Store right before the Shazam! screening, which if you are not familiar with the most ghetto mall in the Salt Lake Valley, Valley Fair Mall, the Nerd Store is a comic book store that also sells collectible toys on top of the comic books. We found a comic book collection of Peter Porker: Spider-Ham. Yes, you read that right. However, after I bought it, I found that it was volume two, and so I jumped onto Amazon and bought volume one for him. Elliot is really polite when I ask him if he wants anything, which makes me happy and sad. I like to spoil him when he visits because I only have him for not quite two months out of the year. He didn't know that I ordered the volume one book because I know he would have told me that the other one was good enough.
We went swimming at an indoor pool that is at a recreation center that is close by to my house. We took my nephew, Carson, and my dad joined us as well. I think we spent close to an hour and a half playing basketball in the pool, spent about half an hour just relaxing in the hot tub. It was nice.
Later after swimming, I played in my curling league tournament, and we won. It was great for me, but my poor dad who doesn't understand curling, and Elliot wasn't exactly happy to sit for two and a half hours, but they didn't mind it. It was awesome working with my team. It wasn't an easy victory, so we definitely earned it.
Speaking of Curling, I am now a registered curling teacher at the Utah Olympic Oval. Most weekends on Friday and Saturday, I am one of the teachers for the Learn to Curl program. If you are interested, let me know, or you can go to the Utah Olympic Oval's website, which I have posted the link below:
Back to Elliot's visit, we played one of those Escape Room in a box games with my parents. It was a wild west story from the "Exit the Game" line from Kronos games. It should have only took us two hours, but it took three because Elliot had a little bit of a hard time sitting down, lol, but we got through it. Apparently I bought one of the hardest ones. I think that it would have been faster with another one of the games.
When I flew with Elliot home the next day, it was hard, not only because I hate it when I have to take him back to Kansas, but I had to be up at 3:30 in the morning to get ready and get to the airport. I had a lot of layovers because of weather. I was supposed to get from Salt Lake City to Denver, then Denver to Wichita, then back to Denver, and then to Salt Lake. I got home at 2:00 in the morning, so I was on the go for 22 and a half hours. It was exhausting, but I made it.
Another funny thing was when I was waiting for my dad to pick me up from the airport, this very scantily clad girl comes up to me, and I don't know how she got drunk or high off of something in the airport or on the plane, but she was on both flights from Wichita and Salt Lake, and she asked me where she could get a car. I was kind of taken aback, and then I told her she could call for an Uber or that there were rental car companies back inside the airport. Then she goes "I want to go to a bar with you and do Karaoke, and then maybe we can see where the night goes." and then she proceeded to grab onto my arm like she wanted me to go with her, but I told her that I have a family I had to get home to, and that my ride was one minute out. She kept begging me to with her, but luckily my dad pulled up a few seconds later, and I told her sorry and good luck.
Getting home and going to bed felt great, but at the same time I had already started missing Elliot right away. I do have some cool things coming up, but I wish that Elliot was here to do them with me. I have a Curling Bonspiel this weekend. If you don't know what that is Bonspiel is a German word meaning Game Tournament, but the term is only used for curling. Anyway, the tournament I will be playing in is at the Utah Olympic Oval where I play my leagues. It's called The Hive Bonspiel, and we start on Friday afternoon. We have half of the teams playing at 3:00. The next group of games starts at 5:00, which is when I play my first match.
After that, we are having a catered dinner with everyone. In a curling bonspiel, the two teams that just played each other have to sit at the same table and talk with each other. Curling is a community sport, I guess is the way to put it. There are hardly any people acting like jerks for the most part, and it's nice to play someone and then get to know them.
After the dinner we are doing Cosmic Curling. If you have ever heard of, or seen, or played cosmic bowling, Cosmic Curling is the same way. We take those skinny glow sticks and wrap them around the stone handles. Then we turn off all of the lights, turn on black lights, and then our curling targets at each end glow in black light. Then we blast music and play a few rounds of curling in the dark. It's a lot of fun.
The tournament goes from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. Everyone is guaranteed three matches, and if you win one of those three games, if not more, and we are put into brackets depending on how well we do in those three games, so if we win one, we are guaranteed to play four games instead of three. Anyway, it's a lot of fun.
Well, I noticed that the last post I posted was in January right before Sundance, and I have written parts of blogs, but nothing to publish. I feel bad it's been so long.
Anyway, I promise to try better in the future. As always I hope everyone is safe and happy. I know this ending part is short, but I don't have anything left to say tonight, lol. Take care, and I hope you read my stuff often.
