Sundance 2023 Part 1: The List....

Tomorrow I am headed up to Park City, Utah to pick up my Press Credentials for the Sundance Film Festival, which takes place from January 19th through the 29th. It has been a few years since I have covered the festival in person because for the 2021 and 2022 festivals, they were online only, thanks to the pandemic, but this year is back in person, and although there are some new ideas they have about press passes this year, I am happy to have it.

In the past, I would go up to Park City and see a few films up there, and some in Salt Lake City. I had a badge that let me into anything I wanted at any time. This year, they kind of tightened up the press passes, so this year I got to choose ten tickets for films in person, but still have the option to watch more at home online. I am able to do a standby line, which I would still get in for free, but only if there are still seats available at the time. Those without a pass would get to stand in the same line with me, but pay a $25 price for a ticket.

I have all of my films picked out, most of them are documentaries because I say this every time I cover the festival, the documentaries are the bread a butter of the festival. Sure it's fun to go up to Park City and see celebrities and interview them, but to be honest, those movies are already going to come out during the year, and just have the premier at the festival, but to be honest, the starstruck feeling goes away, and it seems more like a chore, especially if the person you are interviewing are ignorant and bratty. I actually told off Maggie Gylenhall for acting like she was too good to be there being interviewed by anyone that wasn't a national news outlet, and that I didn't think her acting is all that great, and that her brother is a better actor, and person, than her, and walked out, with many wide-eyed volunteers who were helping with the interviews. I got four pats on the back.

Anyway, the website has a cool feature where I can post a link here below, and when you click it, it goes to a calendar, and then you can click the date and see what movies I am seeing that day, and you can even click the film title, and it will take you to a link with what the movie is about, and if you can buy tickets. Like I mentioned earlier, the tickets are $25 a piece, but it's a great experience, and so much fun. In the past, I stopped going up to Park City for the screenings because everything is screened in Salt Lake City now, and it's great to jump on a Trax line, that has stops at the venues. No driving up snowy canyons for me. The movies are the same, and 95% of the filmmakers and celebrities are there as well.

I can't tell you much about the movies I have picked, but most are documentaries, but there are some normal movies I am attending too. Here is my link...

Nate Unck's Sundance Film Festival Schedule

There are things about the festival. They don't really tell you a rating and the content, but if you read the blurbs about the films that sound interesting, you can usually stay clear of any film that has inappropriate content in it.

So, that's it for this post, but I will be posting a second Sundance Post when I get my badge and swag and all of that good stuff,

I hope you are all well, and I hope that things are going great for you in early 2023. I might even post a picture or two with my new hair color. I decided that I would dye it for fun since it grows so fast. I decided to go with a metallic teal. It almost looks black, but when the light hits it, you can see the teal, I have been wanting to do it for a little while for fun, and some of my family members have been dying their hair fun colors too, so I said, "Why not?"

Alrighty, I'll be back in a jiffy, well, a couple of days!
