It's So Cold!

While I was a substitute teacher for a long ten years, I remember that there was a day where it was so cold outside. (Right here, I am going to quote what a student said, and I promise, just keep reading, because it sounds kind of bad, but it's not!) so, I'm walking down the hall, and a kid says "It's cold enough to make the balls freeze off a brass monkey!

I turned around, and I asked him if he knew what that meant. He said, you know, its funny, It's like a brass statue of a monkey, and freezing his balls off would be funny. Then I told him that if he wants to use euphemisms, he really needs to go on the internet and look up what they actually mean, then took him to school, lol (see my euphemism?), anywho.

I told him the true meaning of what the phrase meant, and I thought it would be a fun little blog post to teach everyone the meaning of It's cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey.

During the American Civil War, the soldiers using cannons would use brass shelves for their cannon balls, so they weren't rolling everywhere. I don't know why, but they called them brass monkeys. So, when it would get freezing cold outside, the brass would shrink just a tiny bit, but when it did, the cannon balls would fall off the brass monkey that was holding them, hence the euphemism, it's cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey.

Now that you know what the euphemism means, you can use it in public, but make sure you are ready to explain what it means. It's sad when people use old words, phrases and euphemisms in a dirty or inappropriate way, but it's not getting any better, but at least we can explain what things used to mean.

I got the idea/memory to tell this story the other day when I was at my friend's house watching the Rose Bowl and Jazz game, and it was so cold outside, and it took a minute to get the car warmed up while I was driving, and I thought of that phrase and thought it would make a fun little blog post.

I know this post was a little short, so, you're welcome!

I hope you are all doing well, and being smart. Covid is still rampant, and we should all be following the mandates. It's your choice to get the vaccines and boosters. I am not going to discriminate those that choose not to, and some of them are good reasons, dealing with other medical problems they have. These strains are no joke, so at least let's all wear masks for the next little while.

I'm really excited. My son Elliot is going to be here on Sunday, and early Monday morning, we are flying out to Disneyland for three days. I am super excited. I am going to try and post one more post before the trip, and probably one right after to brag about the trip, lol.

Anyway, be safe, be kind, and be healthy. I mean, you don't want to miss out on any of my blog posts now, would you?
