Well, we made it. I didn't think we would at first, but here we are, with vaccines, boosters, masks feeling like a normal part of life, and businesses trying to get back up and running. 2021 wasn't quite the dumpster fire as 2020, although we haven't reached "normalcy" that we had before the pandemic. I am starting to believe that things are almost as "normal" as we are going to get for a while, but at least things are trying to make modifications to try and simulate normalcy.
You know those form letters people send their friends and family during the holidays that tell you everything you and your family have been up to for the previous year? I guess this is mine. 365 days sound like a lot of time for a lot of great things to happen, but my list really isn't that long, so I guess I will just start and see where I got to this past year.
January was slow, but then my birthday hit on February 2nd, and turned the big 40! Throughout the year, I was able to start going back to movie theaters to do all of my critic stuff, although there was a lot of great streaming content as well, when I couldn't get out to the theaters. It's nice to be able to go back to theaters. I believe films are made and meant to be shown in a theater with an audience, making it an event over just going to the movies. For example, Spider-Man: No Way Home had audience members cheering and clapping, it was like going to a sporting event almost. That's what I love about films and the theater. When people go out to see a movie or play, they are partaking in art with mostly strangers, and having a great time.
I was doing a lot, and I mean A LOT, of stage plays and musicals, but I didn't do any in 2021 after theaters started back up. I am in the middle of returning to doing Improv Comedy here shortly in 2022, but this is about 2021, so it doesn't count. I miss theater, but I have kind of replaced it with being back in the Curling league at the Utah Olympic Oval, you know the sport you don't know anything about as an American?, Yeah, that one. I love it, and it is getting me some good cardio workouts. I have also joined a gym to work on my cardio, and my core so that I can get rid of the fat, thirty pounds I gained in my stomach during the pandemic.
With Elliot living in Kansas with his mom, he wasn't with me too much this year, but in July and the first half of August were great. We went to the movies, the zoo, the awesome natural history museum up at the University of Utah, a few Salt Lake Bees baseball games, geocaching, hiking, we went to Lagoon twice. Elliot was scared to ride the Cannibal roller coaster that is awesome, but I told him if he went on it, I would buy him an awesome Lego set. He didn't want to, but he went on the ride, and when we got off, he wanted to keep going on it over and over again. I ended up buying him the Infinity Gauntlet Lego set. It's pretty cool. Then eventually, I had to fly with him home to Kansas.
Since then, I have been focused on writing, critic stuff, or otherwise. I have a new blog that I haven't made public yet, where all of the posts are creative writing prompts. I wrote a short story recently that is posted in that blog that is catching some steam. I am thinking of filling it out with a little bit more story and dialogue to turn it into a play script, or a short film script, and see if I can get it going somewhere, and if not, at least there is a decent post in that blog. I will probably make it public once I have a few more posts than I do right now.
Thanksgiving was great, except we were supposed to celebrate at my sister's house, but she came down with Covid, and so Thanksgiving was basically just my parents and me. It was still nice, but we missed being with everyone.
The holidays were great. I love spending time with my family and friends. It's been great following our favorite college football teams and the Jazz games, even the ones that make us upset, lol.
I'm really looking forward to 2022. I have some things in motion, like going back to school in a few months. Spending time with Elliot when he can come and visit. I look forward to more projects. I am excited for the prospect of doing and trying new things, and I look forward to sharing more of my life, ideas and thoughts with you out there reading my stuff.
I really appreciate all of you, and I love writing my blog posts, and hope that you all find something fun, or informative, or maybe emotional. I always say that I am who I am because of all of my friends, family, and the experiences I have that inspire me to try and experience new things, or share things to share what I love, and what makes me happy, with you, to maybe share something you might discover and love it yourself.
I hope you are all well. Get vaxed, or be careful if you make the choice not to. I will be back soon with a new post. I'm looking forward to all of the posts that will come out of me this year in 2022!
