As most of you know, my family are all really into sports, especially my dad, and all of my relatives on my dad's side as well. I love them, though my dad is only into sports, where as I have other interests, but my dad does support those the best he can, lol.
Anywho, we were watching an NBA game earlier this evening, and there is a famous NBA commentator. Well, before the beginning of an NBA game earlier tonight, Ernie Johnson wasn't there, and they announced that his son with Muscular Dystrophy had passed away, and so before the game, they showed an amazing clip of a lecture Ernie Johnson gave to a group of students. I am going to post the video here. It is about eight minutes long, but it's incredible. If you don't watch it, I will also briefly describe what it was about.
A while back, Ernie and his wife were wanting to adopt a child. His wife went to an orphanage, and there was a little bot that looked up at her, and reached out. The person in charge of the orphanage told her "You don't want that boy. He's no good". They found out the boy, Michael, had Muscular Dystrophy, and wasn't expected to live long. Ernie's wife called Ernie, and said, they told me that this boy is no good, but I can't leave here, and not wonder for the rest of my life would be like, always wanting to know what happened to the boy who was no good.
Throughout Michael's life, although he was confined to a wheelchair, and had some type of autism, he loved cars, and could memorize all of the cars people drove. One day, he went into the gym at school with Ernie, so that the coach could just meet him. When they went away, Michael told the Coach "I love you too!", even though the coach didn't say that he loved him first. Ernie explained that he says that to everyone because he loves everyone.
The basketball coach was very moved, and gave Michael a basketball jersey, and he became one of the team's biggest supporters. Michael eventually had everyone in attendance at the school's activities, giving the American Sign Language for I Love You. He touched and inspired so many people.
All of this amazing things happened from a boy who was no good.
There is value in EVERYBODY on this planet, even if it takes a few days, months, or years, that value will undoubtedly be released, and that value is something that will touch the lives of others, and maybe even inspire people to be a better person, and let their true selves and their value shine.
I know this one is a short blog, but please, watch the video. It is so amazing, and will either make you choke up a little bit, or shed some happy tears.
Remember, all of us have value in this world, and even if you may not know what that value might be, be kind to others, work hard. and be safe, and those values will definitely come out.
