Number one, I'm excited to report that I am starting to receive screening links. Screening links are sent to me by email including a special link, and a one time only password where I can watch films from home instead of going out to a theater. Usually they would rather have us at a theater, but with the whole pandemic thing going on, even though some theaters are opening up, most people are still scared to go out to the movies, or anywhere else with large crowds of people. So, for now, most of my screenings are going to be from home.
I am excited because I have been getting a couple emails each day with links to movies, and even some that are going to have critic screenings at the theaters. In my personal opinion, I believe that films are meant to be seen in theaters on the big screen. That's what they are intended for. It's like going to a museum to see art instead of just looking at pictures of the paintings at home. I love going to the theaters. I know that the ones opening up around me are doing a great job making sure measures are being met to protect the patrons. If you don't believe me right now, go back and read my past couple of blog posts. I talk about my experience going to a Megeplex theaters.
So, the press companies that I work with to get my critic information, screenings, and screeners are having us stay quiet about which movie links that we are receiving, but I can tell you that I am pretty dang excited for three or four.
The second thing I wanted to mention is that I don't have the best podcasting microphone. A cool fact about my old podcast, The Reel Perspective, when I was starting it up, I had zero experience with podcasting. Everything I knew I had learned from reading a few websites. So, when I recorded my first podcast, I actually contacted Chuck Bryant, one of the hosts of the super popular podcast, Stuff You Should Know, if you have never checked out that podcast, hundreds of thousands of people can't be wrong!, Anywho, I sent him the link to my podcast. I wanted to send it to him because he is a huge movie buff and has another podcast about movies.
In my very first podcast, I made it 17 minutes long. I reviewed a three films, and also added sound clips. I added the sound clips because there is a film reviewer in Salt Lake City where I am, that had a film review radio show for KSL radio. If you live in Salt Lake, you will know exactly who that was. Anyway, I added some sound clips.
Chuck Bryant sent me an email later that evening and said that my reviews were great, but that I should only focus on one review per podcast, that way people can pick and choose which ones they want to listen to without having to listen to others they aren't interested in first. Then he also told me that the sound clips didn't really work well because people wouldn't be able to see the action that would be on the screen, which made sense. So he really helped me out by giving me great feedback.
A few months back, I was checking my email, and Chuck Bryant had sent me an email asking what happened to my podcast because he checked my podcast out first for movie reviews. I sent a reply telling him that some other person started a podcast with the same title and that I was preparing to do a new one. He said he wondered if I had stopped and just gave it to someone else, but I didn't. Anyway, I feel really humbled that a huge podcast host likes my work.
I wanted to say is that I don't have professional podcasting equipment. I emailed Chuck Bryant to ask him what stuff I should get to make my podcast sound a lot better. He told me of a podcasting kit from Amazon that is only $60, and that everything in the kit works just as well, and sometimes even better than really expensive equipment. I jumped onto Amazon and ordered it, and it will be here in a couple of days. However, I wanted to get my podcast started before the stuff comes because I wanted to do a "Welcome To" podcast that's short, and then I have a film I will be reviewing later this evening, so I really hope that you stick with me and subscribe to my podcast, even if the first couple of episodes aren't the greatest of sound quality. I am on it, and I also love feed back.
The last thing I wanted to say is that even though my podcast is live online, I have submitted it to iTunes, and I know it will be picked up and posted by Apple, but it takes anywhere from one to three days before it shows up in the store. Other than that, you can search for it, and you can also subscribe to the link below.
