September 11, 2001 May We Never Forget

I don't want to write this blog post as some shmaltzy cheesy 9/11 post, but wanted to share my experience with it.

My mom and dad have stories of where they were when they announced JFK had been assassinated in Dallas, Texas. My mom was four years old, and she was across the street having breakfast with their family friends, and my mom was able to recount in incredible detail every that was happening while she sat and ate breakfast as a little kid.

My dad was in school when they announced it. his story is a little more vague. He doesn't remember the small details, but there was a huge announcement, and their elementary school had an assembly to talk about it for a little while.

These memories of the terrible act that caused them was horrible, but also makes one feel that even though we are all in different places like states, cities and towns, but we are all American people, and even though tragedy is bad, and the memories they bring up are unpleasant, for some reason, it brings out our gratitude to be citizens of our amazing United States. September 11th, 2001, and those terrible acts of terrorism brought us together as a nation, and the memories of the fallen, and the people who risked their lives, with some lost, showed not only do we care about each other, but that it's what makes our country so great.

With that said, I wanted to share my memory of 9/11.

I was fresh home from my LDS mission, and I was taking some LDS Institute morning classes, and I woke up early to get cleaned up and ready to go, but when I went upstairs, my mom called for me. She had the TV on, and she tells me that an airplane just crashed into one of the Twin Towers. We watched the report for a few minutes. They originally thought it could have been an accident, but then just a few minutes later, the second plane crashed into the other tower.

It was a terrible thing to witness, but I remember all of the details, the clothes I was wearing, which was a striped sweater with jeans. I used some of my body spray, U to YOU, and after a few minutes, I decided to leave for my classes, but when I got there, nobody else, besides my teacher, who was actually my bishop a number of years back, then a stake president, then my bishop again, and then he was made the Institute President, and him and I watched everything unfold on the news.

I hate that this dark chapter in American history exists, but I think that it helped us learn that we can rely on our communities who are there and ready to help. My heart and thoughts go to the families who lost people that day. Unfortunately there can be a price to freedom we have to pay once in a while, even though we hate it. I hope you all with take time time to remember what happened that day, but also look and the good that has sprung out from it.

Well, that's my time. I will write again soon. I hope you are all doing well and are happy. This is usually a time where I say something cheesy, like Uncky Nate Out!, but I feel it's appropriate time to say I love you all, and I am grateful to share my thoughts and feelings with you all, and believe me, I keep this blog because I care about you all and want to give you an interesting way to look at life and enjoy it. So, go enjoy life, and I will write again soon!
