I was reading online that there is this group of billionaire scientists that say that given a couple of years, they could create a real life Jurassic Park. They say that the species wouldn't be 100% accurate at first, but with a little more time, they could eventually get the exact DNA recipes to create the dinosaurs accurately. Then I have noticed that there are so many new robots and A.I. (Artificial Intelligence.) are being invented and used, and some have even replaced humans who have jobs that robots and A.I. can do just as well, if not completely surpassing a human worker.
Have these people ever seen any Science Fiction films or read any Science Fiction Books whose whole idea is to warn us to not do these things without the systems being corrupted or surpassing human intelligence. Even in the first Jurassic Park movie, just a simple power outage, or corrupt people, can really endanger humans, if not kill humans outright.
Now, I think that seeing a dinosaur would be super cool, or a robot that can help people who aren't physically or mentally well enough to do necessary things for themselves, but us humans have a pretty bad record when it comes to trying to play God. How far is too far? Technology is amazing, and yet so freaking scary at times. I think we should let these projects stay ideas, and not realities. Let's say that we could clone dinosaurs, what would be next? "Well, the dinosaur idea worked, I know, let's dig up human corpses and try to clone humans?"
I know that idea isn't anything new at all, but at what point are we going to understand that things that should be left alone, should be left alone?
With the human cloning thing, did anyone notice that even Michael Bay made a film, The Island, about people in the future that are raised in this big building, and spend their whole life living in the building, and they have a "lottery" where the people think they are winning a contest to go to a beautiful island outside, and it turns out that two of these people, Ewen McGregor and Scarlett Johansen, find out that the people are put to sleep, and then killed because super rich people in the real world have paid to have clones made of themselves incase something happens and they need an organ donation or plantation from a human with their exact same DNA.? Or the Steven Spielberg film, A.I, Artificial Intelligence, which also, even though well made, freaks me out, and it's one of my least favorite movies, but the theme and message is the same.
Michael freaking Bay can even see the horrible things that can transpire from all of this stuff. This is the same guy who made the horrid Transformers and Ninja Turtles movies. He did direct The Rock, which I love, but that's besides the point. This isn't about Michael Bay, but seriously, we need to be careful.
About a week ago, I saw an interview on TV with a Bio Technologist, who studies genes, and said that we are getting pretty close to where rich people can pay a lot of money and give their kids superior genes that keep them strong and safe, but there is no way that a mid-income family, or poor people won't be able to have the same treatments. I hate this idea, because honestly, it's not something that humans should be doing. It's awful. What if the kid doesn't want to be an athlete, but whose super rich parents pay to have him genetically superior to others physically, that make him stronger? I am not kidding, they literally deal with this exact problem in the Superman movie, Man of Steel.
On Krypton, Superman is the first natural child born on the planet in centuries, where others are grown and harvested with certain genes to make them perfect for what the rulers of the society on the planet choose for them. General Zod's issue was he was genetically programmed to be a superior soldier. His whole reason for being a bad guy isn't technically his fault. That's why Superman had to kill him right out, when he tries to save people, and doesn't want to hurt anyone. Zod's genetics literally made it impossible for him to choose what is right and wrong. Superman's natural birth gave him the choice to be good or bad. So, when Zod tracks him down and invades Earth, he doesn't know how to not be someone who is peaceful. His whole reason for existing was chosen by a council of people on a dying planet. Superman's natural father was genetically programed to be a scientist who understands that the way people are genetically engineered are very flawed. What if someone in charge of the genetic makeups of the children makes a small mistake? And this is from a Zack Snyder film. (Eye rolls).
I love you all, and I am happy we live in a time where we have some neat technology. However, even our technology was faced with a huge problem, with us being in a pandemic to a horrible virus that has killed way too many people. Technology and science have made it possible to create vaccines, or even medical science. The surgeries and medicines we have almost seem miraculous. Technology allows me to stay up way too late and write and share my thoughts and feelings with all of you incredible people who inspire me to be a better person. I just feel that with technology, even good technology can be used in a destructive nature. I have seen kids who spend so much time on screens. They can't sit still and pay attention to anything else, unless it's thier screen. Not that I am anti-screens. I am a critic for films and other art forms, and spend a lot of time watching things to share my opinion. However, I also play in a curling league at the Utah Olympic Oval, perform in plays and improv comedy, write choose your own adventure stories and short stories. I love playing board games with my family and friends, or other activities where we aren't on screens and enjoy each other's company, though there are a few things as far as video games or entertainment where we can watch or play things together, but isn't just watching YouTube video after YouTube video of people watching other people playing video games. Seriously, this one is a problem in my family and extended family, as well as some friends. Sometimes, even I'm guilty of watching dumb YouTube videos, but my point is, we still need different types of stimulations and activities that are important for our bodies and minds to function properly.
Anywho, I could go on and on with other examples, but I think that I have made my point. If you have any ideas, or feel like I have missed something, or that I'm close minded, go ahead and post a comment below. I love it when I get comments, and I very, very rarely do. I want to know what the rest of you think and feel on the subjects I touched on. I hope you all are still being safe and wearing masks even if you have had the vaccine yet. I actually haven't had my vaccines because of criteria they use to judge who needs it the most. I think most people who really need it have had the shots, but I still haven't, and I think even with the vaccine in our systems, wearing masks still makes us, and the others around us who haven't had the vaccine yet, feel safe. It's amazing how much safer people feel when others, as well as themselves are wearing them. I'm glad that things are slowly turning the tide, but we aren't out of the woods yet, and I love all of you enough to not want you to die. Anywho, have a good day, and I will be back soon with a new post.
