Anyway, I actually didn't come here to tell you about WandaVision. After I watched the very fast paced episode of WandaVision, I was ready to turn off the TV, and then I saw that Disney + Added the original Muppet Show from the 1970s, Which, I actually already own the DVD collectors sets, but I had to watch some episodes as I still haven't actually seen every episode, even though I own them. Season 2 had an episode where Burnadette Peters was the host, who is so cool, but there was a song number with Kermit the Frog and Mousie, who of course is a mouse, but they sang a number from a movie musical from 1951, Royal Wedding. It stars Fred Astaire and Jane Powell. The song is called "How Could You Believe Me When I Said I Loved You When You Know I've Been A Liar All My Life", and is, in my opinion, one of those musical numbers that is incredibly amazing.
For those of you who know me well, know that "Singin' in the Rain" is my all time favorite movie, and "How Could You Believe Me When I Said I Loved You When You Know I've Been A Liar All My Life", is equal to some of the musical numbers in that as well. I love It so much, I wanted to share it with you. Here is the link.........
This musical number is so funny, and the way they dance looks like almost lazy, is in fact so incredibly performed and in perfect timing, I can't help but love it. I haven't seen the whole film, just the number, but I love the characters so much, that I have been trying to find a copy so I can watch it all. They do have it on YouTube, but the picture quality isn't very good, and as you can see in the video above, It's very bright and colorful, so I don't want to watch someone's old VHS tape copy.
Also, I wanted to say a little about Aspect Ratio. I've seen a ton of people posting online that they hate that older movies, especially Disney's animated films before 1950, all movies were in the 4:3 Aspect Ratio, meaning that the picture was more square, and not in Widescreen Format which is usually 16:9 Aspect Ratio, although newer films are starting to film in quite a few different widescreen formats. So, people who don't understand that, don't really know that when TV was invented, the screen was in the shape of all films before 1950. Also, Widescreen formats were invented in the early 1950s as a gimmick to get people to go back out to the movie theaters, because when people started watching TV, they no longer went out to the movies. I really want to do a post all about the gimmicks used to try and lure people back to the movie theaters, but I'll save it because it's really interesting, and actually pretty funny. People go online and complain that studios aren't adding Widescreen formats for their DVDs and Blu-Rays of films before 1950, and that's because they don't exist. I thought I would mention that because the clip above is in 4:3 Aspect Ratio.
If you are interested in the Kermit the Frog version of the song, you can look it up on Disney +, I mentioned the episode above. It's the very first number after the show's opening title song. But I urge you not to stop there. In my opinion, everyone in your family needs to sit down together and watch The Muppet Show. Some of newer Muppet shows they have been coming out with just don't work like the originals. I will say that there are episodes here and there where Disney + has added viewer discretions because they will sometimes do playful imitations of foreign cultures, for example, most of the time, they add that viewer discretion note before and episode that has a Swedish Chef sketch, so it's not because there is anything dirty or inappropriate, but Disney is just covering their bases incase someone is lame enough to be offended by the portrayals of different cultures.
I am so happy that Disney added the original Muppet Show to their streaming line-up. It's so brilliant, and even though some of the guest stars won't be known to anyone over the age of 40, its a great introduction to some incredible film, television and stage performers, but there are a few that everyone should know. Like I say, I didn't know about that old film, and now I am doing everything possible to find a copy of it because that song was so great. It's great by both Fred Astaire and Kermit the Frog.
Anyway, this was a shorter post, and I feel bad that I haven't posted anything in the past three weeks or so. I had my 40th birthday take place on February 2nd, and I have been planning a longer post about turning 40, and how I want to approach it. I have been making lots of notes and stuff, so I just need to sit down and put them together and actually write it. I hope that you are all still doing well, and that you are staying safe and healthy. This pandemic is still crazy, and although vaccines are coming out, we don't know exactly how they work, and the word on the street is there is a different variant of Covid-19 that a few people have reported. Please stay safe and wear your masks while you are out. I promise that I will be back in only a couple of days with a new post. Take care!
