Okay, so the title of this blog post is actually something said at the end of a Reel Big Fish song called "Suckers"....I think. Anywho, I have been busy and have been going through a lot of stuff in life that needed some taking care of, and as a result, I let my blog slide for a few days, but I'm still here and think about all of you readers who like my content. So, when I left off, I was still doing the 30 Song Challenge, and today will be song 16!
"A song that is a classic favorite!" Now, I read this challenge in two ways. One was my favorite piece of Classical Music, and two was a song that everyone will always love. Just to make it easier, and to make my songs more diverse, I went with classical music.
The Pines of Rome was the second numbered presentation in Disney's Fantasia 2000. The animation follows a baby whale with his family, gets lost in an iceberg cave, but makes it out again, and then all of these whales start flying, and they go through a thunder and lightning storm, which is kind of weird, but let's be honest, tell me a Fantasia segment that isn't a little weird.
The song is so beautiful. It starts out with flutes, some horns and chimes and the music almost sounds playful. Then it gets dark and quiet, still beautiful, but quiet. Then there is a strange waning sound, and it starts quiet, but the music starts to build little by little until it's climax, which is so amazing. I wish more people have this piece of music, or even seen Fantasia 2000, which is actually one of my favorite Disney animated films. It also has a killer version of The Firebird Suite by Stravinski.
I was busy with things dealing with my family this past week. My dad has to have a surgery this coming Thursday on his back. He has some pinched nerves between his fifth and sixth vertebras, so we have been getting ready for a quarantine within a quarantine. It's a minor surgery, but with the Covid-19 Virus going around pretty strong still, he just needs to be extra careful.
I've also been reading some comic books, catching up with tv shows that I've let slide, I wish like crazy I could go out to some critic screenings for my film critic job, but theaters aren't open yet. We may get Mulan near the end of July....if we are lucky. I've also been spending time with my family and playing with my dog, Winston for exercise, for both of us, and I've actually been getting some sleep, something that is so hard for me to do.
Oh, one other thing. I am big fan of the DC Comics shows on The CW, and their newest show, Stargirl, is awesome. I watch an episode, and I feel bummed out that I have to wait for an entire week to see what happens. It's on the CW on Monday evenings, but the DC Universe Streaming Service releases them on Sunday evenings, and without commercials.
I bought a new laptop computer, since I have decided that I am going to go back to school and take some classes. It turns out that a single father who has Asperger's Syndrome who is over 35 years old qualifies me for a lot of grants that I don't have to pay back, so I'm going to do it. It will be slow at first, just one or two classes, but the important thing is that I will be learning new things and maybe, just maybe, learn about some things in this world I didn't know before. I'm really excited for it.
The laptop is great to have as well. I've been doing a lot of projects with it. I am actually starting to write an interactive fiction novel.....it's like a choose your own adventure, but even more interactive. I've had an idea of a story for a little while, so I figured that I should start it. More on that to follow when I get it going.
I hope you all have had a good and safe couple of weeks. I appreciate each and every one of you for coming to my blog to read what might be going through my head on those days. I'm doing it for you, and possibly my mental health.
Well, that's all from me tonight! I will be back in a day or two, not a week or two, I promise!
